Outside the University of Johannesburg Bunting Road campus: A prospectus student awaits, wondering about the future. (sauce: http://www.google.co.za/) |
As UJ is approaching its' Open Day, my question only lies on how the day will be maintained or controlled. Schools have to book and make an appointment to come visit UJ on Friday; parents also have to make appointments to come visit with their children on Saturday. Open day is a day whereby prospective people or learners come together, ask questions about career fields they are interested in, tour around and learn more about the institution. The institution is basically selling itself to its consumers or customers. It is the best way to market and communicate directly with its' target market.
HOW TO DEAL WITH A CRISIS? HOW?
Now UJ came with a strategy of setting appointments because after this year's stampede read more about stampede, that caused a mother's life, UJ cannot certainly take any chances.
The long queue for applying: Everyone wants to see themselves studying at a university. (sauce: http://www.google.co.za/) |
How are companies, organisations or institutions handling their crisis situations? Do they wait for an incident to occur. Are they reactive communicators with the public instead of proactive? -Foreseeing a crisis before it happens. But who is to be blamed though, the department of education, UJ, the late applicants?
This situation goes to show that public relations and communications departments are vital in each and every organisation. Dealing with matters in a way that will benefit both the organisation and the public market or customer has to be dealt with strategically. Internal and external communication should be looked at cautiously no matter how big or small an organisation is.
and this year they are making the open day two days so that people can apply early
ReplyDeleteYes i think is one of the ways to manage a large number of people
DeleteUJ should be extra cautious at the open day expecially after the January incident. They have seen how many people respond to such events, so they should bring in extra employees at the event and I also think that increasing the number of marshals at all campuses will be a good idea in handling the number of people that will be coming to the open day.
ReplyDeleteIndeed.
Deletethe fact that they makin the open day for two days i think it is because they trying to avoid traffic in the university and i think it is a good thing
ReplyDeleteIt is for the better to avoid congestion and incidences.
DeleteEvery organisation have crises and we cant judge UJ based on it's past, what happened previously surely was infuenced by lack of planning and i believe in future non of this will happen again, lets look forward to the opening day.
ReplyDeleteI do agree because my point is that UJ is coming up with a way of managing a large number of people by setting appointments and making the Open Day a two-day event.
Deleteyes the incident of a boy loosing a mother did happen at UJ and it really gave them negative publicity but i bet that even this year there is still a big number of students who want to further their studies at UJ because of its diversity and affordable fees. its much better that this year they will have 2 days for open day.
ReplyDeleteYes I also think that many prospective students feel that UJ accomodates their needs than other universities.
DeleteAnother suggestion is that the Day will be well maintained or managed if UJ hire enough Marshall to occupy any spot that many need to be occupied. And making this's open day two days will also avoid long ques as some can come on a friday with their children and others on saturday.
ReplyDeleteI fully agreee with you.
DeleteDo you think that this strategy will work because most student are not interested in the open day event because they are not sure wheather they will make i or not.
ReplyDeleteOpen Day is open to all, those who are interested will definately show up so by saying, the strategy will definately work because the more the marshalls, the better the assistance to the visitors and therefore confusion and congestion is avoided.
ReplyDeleteAccording to a number of people last year who wanted to apply do you think two days is enough for the open day as for their PRP department they are so effective because they responded earlier to the bad publicity
ReplyDeleteI think two days will be enough for the Open Day as UJ has four campuses which will be all hosting the event. Their PRP department need to work harder on their response.
ReplyDeleteYes, for the UJ really dealt with the matter so well because it first treated the matter as a really critical crisis and it made sure that it addresses the matter very careful in order for the communities to not lose trust in the brand name of UJ.
ReplyDeleteUJ had to deal with the matter well, because imagine the number of prospective students who want to enroll at UJ, they need to be assured that they will be safe, parents too need that assurance for their children.
DeleteI am so sure that this year's open day will be controlled and maintained carefully to avoid any crisis especially after what happened in January 10, 2012. That is why this year's attendants will have to come with parents, and as school groups which shows that the university has come up with a solution to managing successful events and if this, if this could go wrong I don't think the university will be able to handle another bad publicity... I am sure everything will go well
ReplyDeleteI also see things going well because of the two-day Open Day, such situations need careful planning therefore UJ is doing so.
ReplyDeletePeople just need to know they this time they need to apply earlier to avoid what happend earlier in January its as simple as that.
